Father’s Day is approaching soon. My dad is gone now, but I have a lot of wonderful memories of him. I remember fishing with him when I was a young girl. Those quiet mornings in the flat-bottomed boat with my dad bring warm memories. We would go out early and watch the sun rise, and listen to the water lapping against the sides of the boat. I have a few tiles in my shop that pay tribute to those memories. We often caught bluegills from the lakes around Michigan, but the fish featured on my tiles are tropical fish, as I currently live on the Atlantic coast.
I hand-carve the original two-inch tile, then I create small plaster molds to create the finished pieces. My imperfect molds require that I touch up and refine each piece by hand. I bisque fire, then glaze with lead-free glazes, and do a final high-fire at about 2300°F. They each have a small hanging notch on the back for hanging on a wall. They also make nice feature tiles for a backsplash or tiled feature.
Each tile listed is currently available, and I will be creating more soon in a dark blue, which has been the popular glaze color so far. The current price for each tile is $15.00. If you spend $35 or more, you will automatically receive FREE shipping! There is only one of each of the items shown, so check them out soon before they are gone! I also have other tiles that feature floral designs, tea themes, and cute characters. They make great small gifts for friends and family.
